The Forums…
So Sonlight has gone to a paid format. I’m thrilled… no more multiple username problems, deceitful users have been curtailed, one less frustration in life. I am sorry to see some friends, and some good ‘opponents’ leave as a result, but all in all I think it is a good move for Sonlight and I hope will bring us back to what it used to be.
Those who are choosing not to rejoin the forums, for whatever reason, have formed a new forum on another site. It has been up for two days I think, and this morning when I went to check in over there the site was being hit with too many users and wouldn’t connect. I have a feeling that the reality of forum cost and value is about to become much more apparent than will be comfortable for many.
Sonlight really has spent a great deal of money and time providing us with the forums, and in no way with the paltry sum they are charging for access now cover the current costs of maintaining the forums, much less reimburse them for all the costs incurred in prior years. We have gotten a stupendous value for nothing, and now for very little… and as a homeschooling mom who has frequented the forums for around 8 years now, I am very grateful for the support it has provided and grateful that it will continue to be available, even at a cost to myself.
